Garden Firecrests

A pair of firecrest visit my garden

The ivy berries in my back garden have been proving popular with the birds over the last month or so. Blackbird, blackcap, redwing and thrush have all been enjoying the feast but the most unexpected visitors have been firecrests.

I had one visit very briefly one evening and couldn’t believe my luck. I assumed this was going to be a one off but when a pair appeared two days later, it was even more of a shock. They stayed for a little while, flitting from one berry clump to another. Although they’re too small for the berries, it did look like they may have been feeding on the juice seeping out of them. Whatever it was they seemed to enjoy it. I’ve kept an eye out but I haven’t seen them return. The redwings and blackbirds have taken control of the trees since then.
