Short-Eared Owls

For a few weeks at the end of winter and into the early spring, three short-eared owls took up residence at a wildlife-rich spot only two miles up the road from me. This gave me a unique opportunity to spend a lot of time watching and photographing them, given that they were only a few minutes away. There were times when all three would be out at the same time, hunting over the meadows, it was a real spectacle to behold.

I also recorded a fair amount of video during the time I spent watching the owls and I edited some of it together which you can see at the bottom of this page. Included in the description of the video is the significance of the site where the owls were hunting and how uncertain its future is. I won’t go into it here as I don’t want to start having a rant so for now I’ll just focus on the images.
